Setting up a March Wedding with Soft Pastels, Tropical Notes, and Greenhouse Light
Set inside a living, breathing space, this wedding unfolded at Dutch Mill Greenhouse—an actual, working production and retail greenhouse where rows of plants were being carefully grown and prepared for spring sales. Rather than transforming the venue into something unrecognizable, the design leaned fully into what was already there, allowing the celebration to feel immersive, intentional, and deeply personal.
From the ceremony arch to the aisle flowers and reception centerpieces, every floral moment was thoughtfully nestled among greenhouse benches and potted plants. Guests found themselves surrounded by layers of green—tables tucked between growing stock, florals weaving naturally through the space, and sunlight filtering through glass overhead. The effect was transportive, as though the wedding had grown organically from the greenhouse itself.
The aesthetic was subtly tropical, elevated by an undeniably luxurious abundance of flowers. A towering ceremony arch—soaring to over nine feet tall—anchored the space with dramatic presence, lushly composed yet softened by movement and texture. The color palette leaned into spring pastels, creating a light, romantic contrast against the structural steel and vibrant greenery of the greenhouse.
Florals featured a thoughtful mix of blooms and foliage, including sculptural anthurium, cascading hanging amaranthus, airy ranunculus, delicate lisianthus, and oversized philodendron leaves. Together, they created depth and rhythm—lush without feeling heavy, refined without losing their organic quality.
Personal touches were woven seamlessly throughout the design. Reception tables featured stacks of vintage books placed beneath the centerpieces, a subtle and meaningful nod to the bride’s career as a teacher. The venue itself held equal significance: the greenhouse reflected the groom’s work and passion as a greenhouse professional, making the setting not just beautiful, but symbolic.
This wedding was a celebration of growth—in love, in life, and in shared roots. By embracing the authenticity of a working greenhouse and layering it with intentional design, spring pastels, and abundant florals, the day felt both elevated and heartfelt—a reminder that the most memorable weddings often bloom from the stories already being lived.
