I’m Lynette Higginbotham, the owner of Madison House Designs, a wedding and events floral studio, which I opened in 2011. My love of flowers and plants began as a young child, and my sweetest memories include tending to my mother’s perennial beds with her, growing vegetables, sweet corn, and rows of annuals with my dad, spending special moments with my grandmother learning about growing plants from cuttings and trying to keep up with her speedy green bean picking skills, and some very early days spent strolling through my grandparents’ orchard where grandpa had several apple trees which he grafted. My mom sometimes talks about how my other grandmother could grow and sew just about anything and that she always had extensive gardens. I guess you could say I come from a family of horticulturists/farmers on both sides, so it is no wonder that this has become my career and passion and that I chose to major in landscape horticulture at The Ohio State University. Wherever I go, I am drawn to nature and am constantly seeking new, artistic ways to arrange and present flowers and foliages for our discerning customers. Our designs take on a natural, organic, overflowing style and we favor the use of interesting and unusual floral selections to create lush, impressive, detailed pieces of art.
Our location…
Our floral workshop is located on a former apple farm in Marysville, Ohio, which is where we design all of our wedding florals. We love being out in the country where we have acres and land to grow on, while being just a short 45 minute drive from our main market and venues where we commonly deliver to in Columbus, Ohio.
We hold most of our wedding consultations at Brick House Blue in Dublin, Ohio (by appointment only).
A little about me…
I received my Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, majoring in Landscape Horticulture from The Ohio State University in 2003 followed by an overseas internship in Holland with a cut-flower grower of a flower called Matricaria. After college, I spent 7 years working for a local nursery designing interior tropical landscapes for offices, container gardens for high-end residential and commercial settings, and holiday decorating. I am a mom to 4 children named Madison, Fred, Charlotte, and William; my husband Fred and I share our love of plants and met at OSU on the agriculture campus working at the Ohio Plant Germplasm Center, which is a seed storage bank. I love chocolate, jogging, the color blue, anything old/antique, an occasional glass of merlot, Alison Kraus’s music, jasmine vine, helleborus, the fall season, September skies, my family, doing good for others anonymously, and the Lord.
