When Debra and Neil met with me for the first time to discuss their Columbus Ohio Wedding Flowers, I was amazed by her clear vision of the look and style of their wedding which was to take place at the Bluestone in Columbus, Ohio in October 2012. With one of my favorite color combinations, canary yellow and grey, fun table runners of polka dots and chevron, made by the bride’s mother, and the gorgeous backdrop provided by the Bluestone of old ornate wooden trim, stained glass, and more, I couldn’t wait to get started on their wedding flowers!
We first met for coffee and looked together at the collection of images that Debra had compiled, showcasing what she wanted her flowers to look like. I see such variation in brides… some who know exactly what they want, like Debra… some who simply know their colors but look to me for floral ideas… and others who are in beginning stages of the planning before colors, style, and location are nailed down. We love ALL of our brides, no matter where they are with the planning, but Debra sure did make my job easy!!
The Bluestone features a huge stage, perfect for Columbus weddings! This opened up many opportunities for flowers and decor. We hung paper lanterns from the gorgeous wood above, and placed a collection of three tall skinny vases on the raised area at the back of the stage. Flowers on the stage included yellow gladiolus, yellow dendrobium, yellow oncidium orchids, and green tinted baby’s breath. Debra wanted to dress up the aisle in something non-traditional, so we chose to use masses of misty limonium, typically used as a filler flower, in tall cylinder vases, accompanied by tissue paper pomanders, some of which were placed directly on the floor, and others raised up on a short cylinder vase. I loved the reflective sheen of the wooden floor. The yellow really popped!!
The whole left side of the room features a huge glass display. We chose to hang various sized lanterns at different height all along this glass display, which made a huge statement and contribution to the look and feel of this fun, casual wedding!
Debra’s amazing Columbus Ohio wedding flowers included dahlias, garden roses, garden spray roses, one of her favorite flowers, billy balls, silver brunia, and lacey dusty miller. All photography following is by the artistic Ely Brothers.
Bridesmaids’ bouquets were entirely composed of yellow football mums and clusters of billy balls.
Staying close-by during the ceremony, we quickly returned to place centerpieces along rectangular tables when the room was ready to be prepared for the reception. It was so fun running around placing flowers among the fast-paced service staff who were hurriedly placing table settings while hearing the band warm up… fog emitting from the stage!
Wedding flowers used for the centerpieces gave the look of casual, single-stems in a collection of various square and round, clean-line vases. Billy balls, oncidium orchids, fuji mums, and football mums danced along the tables among table numbers, salt and pepper, and glassware.
Here’s another cool thing that can be done in the glass display cases at the Bluestone: This is a display we created using apple branches from our orchard. Various bottles and lanterns were then hung from the branches.
