Feather Bouquets {Columbus Ohio Wedding Florist}

When April contacted me all the way from Atlanta, Georgia in January to assist with her wedding flowers and create feather bouquets for her peacock-themed wedding which was to be in Atlanta in March, we immediately began emailing back and forth with images related to the overall look of the bouquets she was envisioning as well as the specifics about her colors.  Distance was no road-block for this bride when she choose to hire MadisonHouse in the Columbus Ohio area to create her wedding bouquets and boutonnieres!  April provided us with these images below of bouquets she had found online to help jump-start the creative process.  Visuals are always a major aid in communicating the look and style of your wedding flowers with a florist, and we welcome seeing brides’ floral inspirations whether via pinterest, self-made inspiration boards, or through images sent by email.

The bouquets and boutonniere above demonstrated the look she was going for.  Specifically, the first bouquet with the peacock feathers was to be for the bride and the second bouquet (but in different colors) for the bridesmaids.  Her bridesmaids would be wearing deep plum dresses, so we planned to create the round center of the bridesmaids’ bouquets with deep plum-purple flowers which would then be surrounded by an array of deep peacock blue, teal, magenta, and plum feathers.  This is a snapshot of the types of feathers and colors we resourced for the wedding bouquets.

We used a soft wood flower, called sola flower, which comes from the tapioca plant for the centers of the bridesmaids’ wedding bouquets.  We needed to choose a product that would give that delicate look of the flowers shown in her example as well as travel well on their route to the South.  Here’s what the flower looked like in its natural state (before we painted it):

… and here’s a look at the wedding flowers, custom-designed here in the Columbus Ohio area!

We had SO much fun with the boutonnieres and pin-on corsages as well, creating over five versions of them out of dried flowers that we picked up from a local flower grower and painting them to the desired colors as needed.  We also incorporated peacock feather eyes and turquoise curling wire.  The dried flowers used in this wedding included strawflower, starflower, baby’s breath, celosia, echinops, and grass.
